Mickley Ward is currently represented at three levels of local democracy.

•  Prudhoe Town Council - Mickley Ward elects 2 councillors of the 17 Town Councillors.

•  Tynedale District Council - Mickley is part of Stocksfield and Mickley which jointly elects 3 councillors to the District Council. (Before 1999 Mickley elected its own councillor to Tynedale District Council)

•  Northumberland County Council - Mickley is part of the Stocksfield county ward which includes Riding Mill. (Before 2001 Mickley was part of the Prudhoe West county ward)

The proposals for a Regional Assembly require the replacement of the County Council and District Council with a single level, unitary authority. The exact makeup should be decided when the referendum on the Regional Assembly takes place next year.

The  Boundary Commission recommends either:

- keeping the county council and scrapping district councils; or

- combining district councils into larger groupings e.g. 2 authorities to cover Northumberland;
